Why take children to the dentist?

Baby teeth matter too: they hold the space for adult teeth and help children chew and speak properly. Looking after them from the start makes it much easier to avoid decay and problems later on.

We take children’s visits slowly: we explain what we’re going to do, let your child get used to the room and use the visit to teach them how to brush properly.

When should the first visit be?

  • When the first teeth come through, or by their first birthday at the latest
  • If you see white or dark spots on their teeth
  • If they complain of pain when eating or drinking
  • If they still suck their thumb or use a dummy at an age when they should have stopped
  • Around age 6 or 7, to check their bite and growth

Frequently asked questions

At what age should a child first see the dentist?

Ideally when the first teeth come through or, at the latest, around their first birthday.

What if my child is afraid of the dentist?

That’s very common. We go step by step, explain everything in simple words and never force anything. Coming first for check-ups without treatment really helps them lose their fear.

Do cavities in baby teeth need treating?

Yes. A cavity in a baby tooth can hurt, become infected and affect the adult tooth growing underneath.
