Invisalign or braces?

Invisalign is a system of custom-made clear aligners. You change them every few weeks and they gradually move your teeth into place. They’re barely visible, you take them out to eat and brush, and there are no metal parts to rub.

Braces are the classic option: they’re fixed to the teeth and, with regular adjustments, move them into position. They’re still very effective, especially in some complex cases. At your first visit we assess your mouth and tell you honestly which option suits you best.

When is a good time to start?

  • Your teeth are crooked, crowded or have gaps
  • You feel your bite isn’t right or chewing is difficult
  • Your child’s jaw or bite is out of line
  • You had braces as a child and your teeth have moved again

Frequently asked questions

Does Invisalign work as well as braces?

In many cases yes, but not in all. At your assessment we’ll tell you honestly whether your case can be treated with Invisalign.

How many hours a day do I need to wear the aligners?

For the treatment to work you need to wear them most of the day, usually around 20 to 22 hours. You only take them out to eat, drink anything other than water and brush your teeth.

At what age can you have orthodontic treatment?

At any age, as long as your teeth and gums are healthy. For children, a first check around age 6 or 7 helps spot growth problems early.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

It depends on the case. It can range from a few months for mild cases to two years or a little longer for complex ones. We give you an estimate after the initial assessment.
