What is a dental implant?
An implant is a small post, usually made of titanium, that is placed in the jawbone and works like the root of a tooth. A crown that looks like a natural tooth is then fitted on top.
When several teeth are missing, there are other options: implant-supported bridges, fixed dentures or removable dentures. At your first visit we study your case and explain the alternatives, their advantages and what each one costs.
Who are implants for?
- You’re missing one or more teeth
- You wear dentures that move or are uncomfortable
- You have a tooth that can’t be saved and needs to come out

Frequently asked questions
Does getting an implant hurt?
It’s placed under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the procedure. In the following days there may be some discomfort or swelling, which is managed with the medication we recommend.
How long does the whole process take?
It depends on the case. Between placing the implant and fitting the final crown there’s usually a healing period of several months. We’ll give you specific timings after the assessment.
Can anyone have implants?
Most people can, but we need to assess the available bone and your general health. That’s why we always carry out an assessment first.
